Happy New Year!

This past week marked the official end of summer vacation and the time of year us moms walk around saying to one another, "Happy new year!" 💁

I had some serious reservations about sending N into a fishbowl of germs aka school, but both the doctor and dear hubby strongly felt that it would be good for him to have some social interaction and a sense of normalcy before entering his period of complete isolation for the many months to come. I had a meeting with his school 2 days before the first day of school, and I was not only comforted but really encouraged and touched beyond expectations at the lengths to which they were willing to go in order to make it the safest place possible for him. Despite being a former teacher, I have a newfound appreciation for teachers now that I'm on the other side of it. I never realized the enormous impact one teacher can have on an entire family, and the depths of great influence a teacher has on my son's day. All 3 of my boys hang heavily on their teacher's every word. In our house, a teacher's word is the law that can never be broken. Should I ask them to say things like, "You must eat spinach?" After that meeting, I felt confident that all of them were in great hands and that each of them was placed in a classroom that they could thrive in. I know I will be so grateful beyond words to each of those women throughout this year.

So to all of you wondering, the boys had a great first day of school. I think they were just relieved to be rid of me hovering over them all day saying, "Wash those hands! Who left the toilet seat up this time? Who splashed pee on the trash can? Stop sniffing your underwear! Stop sniffing HIS underwear!" Yes, it's true. I said all those things multiple times this summer. And then some. God in His infinite wisdom decided it would be a great idea to leave me as the sole female in this house, so there must be good reason for it! But it sure is lonely being the only one with good sense, sound judgement, rationality. 😏

I'm grateful that N gets these next several weeks of routine and interaction with friends. Brothers are great, brothers are lovable, brothers are loads of fun, but brothers are also extremely annoying. They needed school to start at this point. N will generally be attending part time. I decided to pick him up for a 2 hour block in the middle of the day to avoid high traffic areas like lunchroom, recess (he can't go outside anyway), and specials (music/art/PE) where the entire school comes through those classes and I see way too much potential for germ exposure there. That gives him some time to recharge at home for round 2. That's a lot of back of forth for me, but fortunately the school is just a short hop over.

We are excited to get this year of learning, growing, and healing started!
